Stop & Shop New York Metro Division partners with Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center to help fight pediatric cancer

(Purchase, NY) April 19, 2013 – Beginning today through July 18, 2013, The Stop & Shop Supermarket Company LLC customers will have the opportunity to help support pediatric cancer research at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) through Stop & Shop’s annual Triple Winner Game®. Customers who make a $1 contribution* receive a Triple Winner scratch ticket and could be an instant winner of either a free product, gift card or cash prize up to $10,000, or could receive a product coupon.

Through the Triple Winner Game, our customers and associates have raised in total more than $74.6 million for the fight against childhood cancer. In the New York Metro Division, over $11 million has been donated to the Department of Pediatrics at MSKCC since 2001.

The Triple Winner Game has become a national model of how corporations and consumers can partner together successfully to raise millions of dollars to make a difference in the fight against pediatric cancers. Stop & Shop, with support from the New York Yankees in the New York Metro Division, has pledged to raise $1.5 million this year.

“Stop & Shop is proud that we are able to assist the doctors at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center as they treat children who have been stricken with cancer and look for ways to find a cure,” said Don Sussman, President of Stop & Shop’s New York Metro Division. “Triple Winner has given families hope that their youngsters will receive the care needed so that they can lead long and productive lives. We are so appreciative of the generosity of each of our customers who help to make this campaign a success. By working together we are proud that Stop & Shop and our customers can make a difference.”

Edy’s Grand Ice Cream is teaming up again with Stop & Shop for a special fund-raising day on Saturday, April 27, 2013 to support the Triple Winner Game. Several of Edy’s brands including single-serve ice cream cups, shakes and smoothies will be part of a special promotion benefitting MSKCC. Additionally, Edy’s will donate $.05 for every single-serve cup, shake or smoothie sold between April 19 and June 13, 2013 to MSKCC, with no limitation on the amount donated during this time frame. Last year, Edy’s raised approximately $55,000 for the New York Metro Division and hopes to raise even more this year with the community’s support.

“For more than twelve years now, Stop & Shop has provided critical support on behalf of children with cancer,” says Paul Meyers, MD, Vice Chair of Academic Affairs in the MSKCC Department of Pediatrics. “I can’t stress enough how crucial this kind of consistent funding is for the ongoing research enterprise devoted to eliminating childhood cancer. When you hear about the next dramatic Memorial Sloan-Kettering research breakthrough that will save precious young lives and change the course of pediatric cancer treatment all over the world, please remember that Stop & Shop played an invaluable role in making that happen.”
