Purchase, NY & Quincy, MA (December 20, 2016) - Following a recall by The Henry Gonsalves Company, The Stop & Shop Supermarket Company LLC announced it removed from sale Gonsalves Brand Sugar Coated Almonds which may contain wheat, an undeclared allergen. In addition, the colors used in this product - Yellow #6, Red #3, Red #40 and Blue #1 - were not properly disclosed. This product is safe to consume for individuals who do not suffer from a wheat, Yellow #6, Red #3, Red #40 or Blue #1 allergy.

The following product is included in this recall:

  • Gonsalves Brand Sugar Coated Almonds, 12 oz., UPC 2053964550, all date codes

Stop & Shop has received no reports of illnesses to date.

People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to wheat, Yellow #6, Red #3, Red #40 or Blue #1 may run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.

Symptoms of food allergies typically appear from within a few minutes to two hours after a person has eaten the food to which he or she is allergic. Allergic reactions can include: hives; flushed skin or rash; tingling or itchy sensation in the mouth; face, tongue, or lip swelling; vomiting and/or diarrhea; abdominal cramps; coughing or wheezing; dizziness and/or lightheadedness; swelling of the throat and vocal cords; difficulty breathing; loss of consciousness.

Customers who have purchased this product should discard any unused portions and bring their purchase receipt to Stop & Shop for a full refund.
