Purchase, NY & Quincy, MA (December 21, 2016) - Stop & Shop announced today that its 2016 Food for Friends instore fundraising campaign raised over $1 million dollars to provide hunger relief to those in need throughout New England. In Massachusetts alone, including matching funds from Stop & Shop, its stores raised $600,000 that will directly benefit 122 hunger relief organizations throughout the state, including the Greater Boston Food Bank.
"As we have for over a century, Stop & Shop is committed to being a good neighbor and helping the communities we serve," said Mark McGowan, President of the Stop & Shop New England Division. "I would like to thank our customers and associates for making our Food for Friends program such a success this year benefitting so many in need throughout Massachusetts."
In its 27th year, the Food for Friends program allows customers to support hunger relief organizations through in-store donations at checkout registers. Sixty percent of the money raised is donated to local hunger relief agencies or food pantries that each Stop & Shop store “adopts” and the remaining forty percent is donated directly to regional food banks.
"Stop & Shop's Food for Friends program helps us provide healthy food to those struggling with hunger throughout the holiday season and beyond," said Catherine D'Amato, president and CEO of The Greater Boston Food Bank. "We thank Stop & Shop, its customers and its associates for their generous support of their neighbors in need."
