Stop & Shop and Next Step Living® Launch Energy Efficiency Program in Westchester and Rockland Counties in New York

Purchase, NY (March 4, 2015) – Just in time to help New York Metro area homeowners save money and stay warm as the region has been hit with bone-chilling temperatures, The Stop & Shop Supermarket Company LLC is expanding its partnership with Next Step Living, a leading provider of home energy solutions, to launch an in-store energy efficiency educational program in Westchester and Rockland counties.

The educational program, which has already helped approximately 26,000 New England homeowners learn about home energy efficiency and sustainability, will feature in-store appearances by home energy advisors at information tables in select Stop & Shop stores in Westchester and Rockland counties. It’s a convenient and easy way for Stop & Shop customers to learn how to make their homes more energy- efficient and save money on their utility bills while living more sustainably and comfortably. Next Step Living advisors encourage shoppers to begin with a free, comprehensive home energy assessment. Many follow up with additional home energy improvements like air sealing and insulation.

“We’ve had great success in our initial regional partnership with Stop & Shop, where we’ve already worked with tens of thousands of homeowners to help them lower their utility costs and increase their comfort at home,” said Geoff Chapin, CEO and founder of Next Step Living. “We’re proud of the impact we’ve had – and continue to have - in New England and are looking forward to helping New York homeowners lower their collective carbon footprint.”

This partnership, which has been in place since early 2013 in Stop & Shop’s New England division, has made a quantifiable educational, environmental and economic impact.

  • Over 7,000 Stop & Shop customers have had home energy evaluations, and more than 1,550 have air sealed and insulated their homes for additional energy efficiency.
  • The steps those homeowners took collectively have prevented the emission of more than 5,000 metric tons of CO2, the equivalent of more than 1,000 cars being removed from New England roadways.
  • The economic impact: More than $1 million annually in energy savings.

Stop & Shop, recognized by the EPA as an Energy Star® Leader for improved energy performance in its buildings, supports the in-store program as part of its Better Neighbor Promise. Its goals are to protect the environment, support the community and better the lives of its customers. Stop & Shop has a long history of environmental leadership including building LEED-certified stores that reduce the company's carbon footprint, employ innovative green building technologies, and conserve energy. Through the partnership with Next Step Living, Stop & Shop is helping its customers find practical ways to reduce their own energy consumption and lower their utility bills.

“Stop & Shop is committed to making a positive impact in the communities we serve and through sustainability initiatives like the Next Step Living partnership, we are able to bring about change that is not only better for the environment, but also saves money for our customers,” said Don Sussman, president of Stop & Shop New York Metro Division. “The program has proven to be a great success in our New England stores and we are thrilled to offer Westchester and Rockland County customers the opportunity to take advantage of its benefits.”

In addition to the in-store appearances of home-energy advisors at information tables, Stop & Shop customers can also schedule home energy assessments on NextStepLiving.com/stopandshopny or at select stores featuring the in store events.
