STOP & SHOP EXPANDS HEALTH & WELLNESS COMMITMENT
Introducing newly updated Passport to Nutrition Program
(Purchase, NY) July 12, 2013 - As part of its commitment to providing health and wellness resources to its customers, especially children, The Stop & Shop Supermarket Company LLC is introducing its newly updated and expanded “Passport to Nutrition” program to organizations that educate and work with children, including schools, summer camps and scouting groups, among others. “Passport to Nutrition” is a fun, interactive program that provides the necessary tools to educate kids on nutrition and living healthy lifestyles both at home and at school.
“The Passport to Nutrition program will provide students and their parents with essential information about healthy eating at a time when many schools are facing classroom and programming budget cuts, ” said Arlene Putterman, Manager of Public and Community Relations of Stop & Shop New York Metro Division. “Stop & Shop is proud that this program will help fill the void by providing essential information to children at no charge to their families or to their school districts.“
Geared to children ages 8 –12, Stop & Shop's “Passport to Nutrition” kit features student workbooks and a teacher guide that provide lessons which inspire kids to make small changes every day for better health, including how to build a balanced plate using the new MyPlate guidelines from the United States Department of Agriculture and how to read food labels and understand portion sizes. Posters illustrating MyPlate and food labels are also included to visually reinforce lessons learned. The “Passport to Nutrition” kit also includes a DVD featuring challenges, kid–friendly songs and games which can be adapted for classroom use.
If interested in obtaining a complete “Passport to Nutrition” kit, teachers and organizational leaders can email a request to PTNkit.email@example.com. Educational materials and kit components are also available to download at www.stopandshop.com/kidhealthyideas. In addition, Stop & Shop also encourages parents who are committed to healthy lifestyles for their children and family to visit the website for ideas they can share at home.
