Coffee, Tea & Cocoa

We are always looking for ways to be environmentally and socially responsible. This means sourcing products that meet strict standards, including better farming methods and treatment of workers. By shopping for products with the Rainforest Alliance Certified™, Fair Trade, or UTZ certified logos, you support these social and environmental practices. See below to learn more.

Rainforest Alliance

The Rainforest Alliance works to conserve biodiversity and ensure sustainable livelihoods by transforming land-use practices, business practices and consumer behavior. The Rainforest Alliance’s approach is the understanding that the health of the land is closely connected to the well-being of those who depend on it for their livelihoods. In order for a farm, forestry, or tourism enterprise to achieve Rainforest Alliance certification, it must meet rigorous standards designed to protect ecosystems, safeguard the well-being of local communities and improve productivity.

The UTZ program stands for the sustainable production of coffee, tea (including rooibos and herbal teas) and cocoa. Products that have the UTZ label show you that the coffee, tea or cocoa has been sourced in a sustainable manner. To become certified, farms have to follow the strict UTZ Code of Conduct, which offers expert guidance on better farming methods, working conditions and care for nature. This in turn leads to better crops, a better income, a better environment and a better life for farmers, workers and their families.

Fair Trade

Fair Trade USA is the leading third-party certifier of Fair Trade products in the United States. By shopping for their logo, you the consumer make a difference with your dollar. Fair Trade certified products help people and the planet work together so both are healthy and sustained. Fair Trade USA provides farmers in developing nations the tools to thrive as international business people. Instead of creating dependency on aid, they use a market-based approach that gives farmers fair prices, workers safe conditions, and entire communities’ resources for fair, healthy and sustainable lives. While best known for coffee, Fair Trade Certified has grown to encompass many products, from tea and chocolate to body care and wine.

Stop & Shop cares about cage free eggs

Cage Free Eggs

Stop & Shop cares deeply about animal welfare, including the welfare of egg-laying hens. That's why we have committed to working with suppliers to reach a 100 percent cage-free shell egg assortment by 2025. We are working toward a 100 percent cage-free shell egg assortment first in private brand selection, which accounts for the majority of our shell egg sales. We will then continually increase overall supply of cage-free eggs with the goal of 100 percent cage-free in all shell eggs offerings by 2025 or sooner based on available supply. We will continue to listen to our customers on this issue, particularly with respect to consumer demand and affordability.
